Finally NUG Announces Cabinet Nominees

The National Unity Government (NUG) led by President Ashraf Ghani and CEO Abdullah Abdullah finally announced the much-awaited list of minister-designates and the nominees for NDS and the Central Bank of Afghanistan.

The announcement came on Monday after 105 days of NUG, a long delay which followed huge criticisms from the Parliament and civil society groups.

This comes as Ghani after taking oath as the new president on Sept. 29, promised during his maiden speech to form the cabinet within 45 days.

According to a Presidential decree announced at the event, the acting ministers would continue their duties until the new cabinet nominees receive a vote of confidence from Wolesi Jirga, Lower House of the Parliament.

Besides the minister-designates, the government also introduced nominees as the heads of National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Da Afghanistan Bank, the central bank.

The two lists of the cabinet nominees introduced by Ghani and Abdullah are as follows:

Nominees Introduced by Ghani:

1. Sher Mohammad Karimi as Minister of Defense

2. Ghulam Jilani Popal as Minister of Finance

3. Faiz Mohammad Osmani as Minister of Haj and Religious Affairs

4. Faizullah Kakar as Minister of counter narcotics

5. Sadat Naderi as Minister of Labors, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled

6. Daud Shah Saba as Minister of Mines

7. Khatera Afghan as Minister of Higher Education

8. Shah Zaman Maiwandi as Minister of Urban Development

9. Qamaruddin Shinwari as Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs

10. Faizullah Zaki as Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation

11. Ai Sultan Khairi as Minister of Information and Culture

12. Abbas Basir as Minister of Public Works

13. Yaqub Haidari as Minister of Irrigation, Agriculture and Livestock

Nominees Introduced by Abdullah:

1. Salahuddin Rabbani as Minister of Foreign Affairs

2. Noor-ul-haq Ulumi as Minister of Interior Affairs

3. Sardar Mohammad Rahman Oghli as Minister of Economy

4. Sardar Mohammad Rahimi as Minister of Commerce and Industries

5. Sayed Hussain Alemi Balkhi as Minister of Refugees and Repatriation

6. Najiba Ayubi as Minister of Women's Affairs

7. Ahmad Seyar Mahjoor as Minister of Justice

8. Nasir Durrani as Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development

9. Ferozuddin Feroz as Minister of Public Health

10. Mohammad Gul Zalmai Younusi as Minister of Education

11. Mahmoud Saikal as Minister of Water and Energy

12. Barna Karimi as Minister of Communications and Information Technology

Meanwhile, Khalil Sediq was said to have been introduced by Ghani as the governor of Da Afghanistan Bank while Rahmatullah Nabil is said to be an independent candidate as the head of NDS.
